Night weaning a 13 month old who's still breastfeeding to sleep

He's 13 months, eats solids great during the day, but at night he still feeds to sleep and wakes 2-3 times needing the boob to go back down. I'm back at work and absolutely shattered.
My GP confirmed he doesn't need the calories overnight anymore. I just don't know how to break the feed-to-sleep association without it being traumatic for him.

Dad doing the night wakings was the key for us. With me there he wanted to nurse, full stop. My husband took over comforting for a week and the night feeds just faded because the offer wasn't there. Cuddles and water instead.

We separated the feed from sleep first, fed earlier in the routine then did books and songs so the last thing before the cot wasn't nursing. Took the association apart gradually. Way gentler than going cold turkey.

Glad you checked with your GP about the calories, that's the right first step. We night weaned at 14 months and yes there was protest, but offering comfort in other ways the whole time meant he never felt abandoned. It clicked in about a week.

Solidarity from another back-to-work mum. It's brutal. Pick a stretch where a rough night won't sink you and have your partner do the heavy lifting. You're not depriving him, you're both going to sleep better.
