Did the 4 month regression and now I'm scared to sleep train at all

When my son hit 4 months everything fell apart and I read about sleep training but it felt too harsh for such a tiny baby. He's 6.5 months now and still waking 4-5 times.

When is it actually okay to start something more structured? And what's the gentlest place to begin? I feel paralyzed by all the conflicting info.

Most approaches suggest waiting until baby is developmentally ready, often around 5-6 months, but every family decides what feels right for them. We started small at 6 months just by working on a consistent bedtime routine before touching anything about night wakings.

Gentlest starting point honestly is the wind-down routine and a consistent wake time. We fixed the schedule first and a couple of the night wakings disappeared on their own before we did anything else.

Pick the method that you can actually be consistent with at 3am when you're exhausted. The 'best' method is the one you won't abandon halfway. We chose a chair-fade because my partner couldn't stand any crying.

There's no rush. We didn't do anything formal until 8 months and it was honestly easier because he could understand a bit more. Don't let the forums pressure you into a timeline.
