Swaddle escape artist at 6 weeks, what now

My little guy is 6 weeks and has started busting out of every swaddle by 2am, arms free, then startling himself awake every 20 min with the Moro reflex. We've tried the velcro ones and the zip sacks and he Houdinis out of all of them.

Is it time to transition out of the swaddle already or am I just doing it wrong? He's not rolling yet.

The golden rule everyone will tell you: the second they show ANY sign of rolling, swaddle has to go, arms out, for safety. Not rolling yet means you have a little time, but a consistent escape artist is often a sign they're ready to start the transition anyway.

We switched to a transition product with arms up/out and it was a rough 3 nights then way better. The startle reflex is the issue, not the swaddle itself. Some babies just need their hands by their face. Try one arm out first as a middle step.

Make sure it's snug across the chest but the hips have room to move (hip-healthy). A loose swaddle is the usual escape culprit. But honestly if he's fighting it this hard at 6 weeks, his body might just be done with it.

Just a heads up to make sure whatever sack you move to has no loose fabric and he's flat on his back. We went arms-out sleep sack around 7 weeks and the first few nights the Moro woke him but his arms settled within a week.

Mine was the exact same. Went cold turkey to arms-out sack at 6.5 weeks. Two bad nights, then he actually slept BETTER because he stopped fighting the wrap. Don't be scared of it, sounds like he's telling you he's ready.
