Sleeping clothes should be safe, the right size and the right temperature for the room.
For the first year of life it's best to avoid a blanket and use a sleeping bag or warm fleece pajamas.
Safe clothing is clothing made from natural fabrics, in a sensible size, with no elastic bands, ties, shoelaces or buttons.
If a child is sweating, it's definitely worth dressing him or her lighter. Accordingly, if a baby is too cold, he or she should wear warmer clothes.
How to check if a baby is too warm:
You need to touch the top of babies neck under the back of the head. If it's hot then it's too hot. If it is cool then it is too cold. If it is just warm and does not feel cool or too warm then it’s comfortable for the baby.
Touch the back. If it's hot or sweaty, the baby is definitely too hot.
You can touch the exposed parts of the babies body while he or she sleeps. They should be warm or slightly cool. If they are hot or cold, you should dress the child differently.
To make sure your child is not freezing outdoors, you can touch his or her forearm (the part of the hand between the wrist and shoulder). The palm may be cold, but if the forearm is warm, the child is dressed correctly.
Children sleep much better in a cooler room.
