  • For children over 4 months of age, a nap should last one hour or more.
  • Short naps of 20-40 minutes are the norm for children under 4 months of age, as naps are still shallow and in a chaotic order.
  • Babies under three months of age do not yet produce melatonin.
  • One nap may be short as long as the child sleeps the required number of hours in other naps.
  • Sleeping in motion (in a stroller or car seat) can interfere with deep sleep.
  • Sleeping in uncomfortable conditions (noisy, hot, uncomfortable, hearing parents' speech). See “Sleep conditions”.
  • The child does not know how to "glue" the sleep stages together. See "Sleep prolongation".
  • Improperly established regime and rhythm of the day.
  • Hunger.
  • Overworked.
  • The child is not tired.
