  1. Feed your baby one hour before bedtime (including time for bedtime routine).
  2. If complementary foods are introduced, give porridge or other complex carbohydrates before breastfeeding (artificial feeding).
  3. After feeding, there should be at least one ritual before moving to the crib.
  4. Feeding should take place in an environment not conducive to sleep: sitting, dim light. It is better if it is not in the bedroom where your baby sleeps.
  5. Do not let your baby fall asleep while sucking. Stroke it, talk to him or her, get up with the baby and distract him or her.
  6. Feed during the day, according to your schedule, so you know your baby is not hungry. (Check the number of night feedings by age)
  7. After 12 months, your baby is able to sleep through the night without feeding, so all night feeds are eliminated at once. The main thing is to feed your baby well before bedtime.
  8. If the baby wakes up at night, but it's not time for feeding, it means he or she is full and you can offer water or pre-cooked compote of dried fruit, diluted formula (dilute the formula every night, gradually increasing the amount of water relative to the formula to gradually come to pure water). Try to distract and soothe the baby by rocking, singing, talking, but do not attach to the breast.
  9. When the baby wakes up at night to eat, feed at night in a sitting position. If the baby falls asleep while sucking, move the sleeper to the crib. If not, place the sleeper in the crib after feeding. If the baby cries and does not fall asleep, proceed as in leaving rocking from step 1 to step 10.

That means:

  1. Start rocking the baby the way he or she is used to, then in an upright position.
  2. Decrease the rocking amplitude gradually.
  3. Gradually decrease the rocking time.
  4. Make stops between rocking.
  5. Monitor your baby's reactions.
  6. When the baby calms down, stop rocking and just hold and walk around the room
  7. .
  8. If the baby continues to be calm, stop at the crib and just hold the baby in your arms.
  9. For the first few days, allow the baby to fall asleep in your arms, but not while rocking and in the stationary state.
  10. Do not allow falling asleep during rocking, if the baby has already learned to fall asleep in your arms while motionless.
  11. To put the baby in the crib while awake.
  • If the baby immediately begins to cry a lot, then take him or her in your arms and do the same (points 1 - 10). Repeat in sequence every time until the baby falls asleep.
  • Sleep aids can be used: white noise, pacifier, stroking, lullabies (until deep sleep).
  • It is important to act with love, every time in the same way, consistently and confidently from point 1 to point 10. Let the child know that everything is okay and he is safe.
  • !!! Never shake the baby. See “Shaken baby syndrome.”
  • .
  • Do not put the baby in the crib by force, otherwise he will be frightened and have a tantrum. The baby will be afraid of the bed. Try to keep him or her interested. Draw attention to your favorite toy lying in the crib, stickers on the back of the crib, which brought your favorite toy. Offer to go down into the crib and see what they are painted on. Stickers is better to choose according to the child's interests (cars, animals, dolls, flowers).
  • If the association for rocking is very strong, then proceed gently and gradually. Start rocking in a position to which the baby is used to. When the baby is quiet, try rocking in an upright position.
  • Before you start separating breastfeeding from sleep, it is important that parents are physically and psychologically ready, calm and full of energy. The process will certainly take some time and will require energy and stamina. Therefore, it is important for parents to prepare and let each other rest before starting.

Mistakes

  • There are no more or less important points in the training. It is equally important to follow them all.
  • You must be prepared for the child to resist. Parents must have enough strength to calm the child when he or she demands the conditions he or she is accustomed to. Otherwise, if parents do what the child asks, an infant will realize that it is possible to achieve his or her goal, he or she just needs to cry even longer and louder.
